Early garden update

Collective cubic yards of soil moved: 7 (Evan ft. Jaimi and Morgan)
The indoor garden is thriving! Construction of outdoor raised beds proceeds rapidly, mostly thanks to Evan’s rapid acquisition of dirt, mulch, and 2x4s. It’s his characteristic “immediacy,” and I’m excited each time I come over to see what’s changed.
We are designing a new trellis to put on the side of Planter 2 to support vining plants (beans, peas, and potentially eggplants and sweet potatoes). After that, there are a few final touches that remain– notably structures to deter Tom and Mel’s pup, Billie, from hopping into the garden beds. I think we’ll be in a good spot to transplant many of our seedlings at the end of April when the daily temps are high enough to keep the soil warm.
This has all taught me that I’m ready for some small senses of permanence in my life. It’s been nice to build things together, though I have helped more in spirit than anything. Maybe it’s high time for some perennials.
